May 2 Tornado

This is a picture of the tornado taken from about 1 mile NE of us. Our house should be somewhere on the left edge of the funnel along the tree line in the back. It was taken about 11:41 am.

May 2 Tornado

This is a tree near Lonnie's house. Notice how the wind twisted it.

May 2 Tornado

This damage is to Judy's brother, Lonnie's house. There were 3 very large oak and hackberry trees well over 100 years old uprooted and at least one went thru Lonnies roof. Lots of damage here. His shop and 3 out buildings were destroyed. Lonnie was not hurt either.

May 2 Tornado

2 Entergy construction crews replaced the 6 destroyed poles by 2 pm Saturday and we had power restored by 5:30. Just 30 hours after the storm. They had the right tools.

May 2 Tornado

The insurance company sent a construction crew down and they put temporary patches on the roof and window. This was 6 hours after the tornado.
The insurance folks were real good about checking on us.
We expect to be without power for 3+ days. There is a lot of damage in Hensley and Woodson so it will take them awhile probably to get to us. We do have a generator and plenty of gas so as long as it does not get too hot we should be fine...

May 2nd Tornado

Another view of the SW part of our house. Jimmy, Matthew and I were in the center hall bathroom at the time. We could hear the wind get louder and louder and it shook the house a little but we did not hear any of this. The contents of our storage shed are in the foreground. The Lexan plate that is missing is a hundred feet North of here. It is pretty tough stuff and had lasted 26 years but was shattered at the other end of the house.

May 2nd Tornado

Another picture of the trees North of our house. These fell facing North. The trees a few yards behind me are facing East toward these trees. Chunks of pavement can be seen scattered about.

May 2nd Tornado

This picture is taken from about the same spot as the flood picture below.....less water, but the pavement was sucked up at this spot for about 30 yards. There are no power poles in the picture because they are all laying on the ground. This is about 200 - 300 yards North of our house. Farther East several power poles were pulled straight up out of the sandy soil....

May 2nd Tornado Pictures

This is our greenhouse and sun room. A storage shed SW of our house disintegrated and blew out the windows on our West side. Most of our damage is in this area and the shingles on the roof.
